"You're wearing so much purple, it hurts my eyes," Jesse complained to Axel as they walked across the show grounds to the warm-up ring with Haïzum. Axel grinned and said, "first my hair, now my hair and my clothes... what next?"
"Your tack," Jesse said with a straight face, but he couldn't hold that for long and they both laughed. Jesse braced against the saddle as Axel got up off the ground and swung his leg over, taking up the reins. Haïzum looked around curiously, his ears perked, and jittered forward into the warm-up arena as Axel gently nudged his sides.
"Hey, Sam!" Axel called, seeing his friend from RM together with his horse Hector, who had already broken into a sweat. Sam grinned at him, but neither of them stopped to have a chat as they tried to calm their horses down as much as possible before the actual run. Axel suddenly spotted Jackie and Angie standing by the side, talking as they kept an eye on Sam and Hector, and took a deep breath, collecting his reins a little more. He urged Haïzum into a nice, collected trot, the stallion arching his neck beautifully, and smiled to himself, feeling almost all the nervousness wash away as he prepared to perform in front of a crowd.
"No messing up, hm?" he whispered to Haïzum, who flicked his ears back attentively, "you've got all the time in the world to be a dork at home when no one is looking."

And by no one he means Jackie
